Self harm is a very real and valid issue. You may not fully understand why someone would intentionally hurt themselves, and that’s okay. However, what’s not okay is mocking, belittling, or trivializing self harm of people who engage in it. Self harm is not always a way of seeking attention and even if it is, it shouldn’t necessarily be ignored. people self harm for a variety of reasons. It is often a coping mechanism, a habit, and/or an addiction. It is almost always indicative of a problem. People who self harm are not stupid, weak, disgusting, or inferior. Self harm is neither an “emo” thing nor a 13 year old girl thing. If you cannot have sympathy or empathy, please just leave people alone.
